JNPT — also known as Nhava Sheva — is India's largest container port, handling 7.3 million TEU in FY 2024-25 (a 13.5 percent year-on-year increase) and ranked third overall by cargo tonnage among Indian major ports. Located across the bay from Mumbai Port in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, JNPT serves container lines operating on Europe-Asia, Middle East and intra-Asia rotations, making it a priority bunkering port for liner tonnage calling the Arabian Sea.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority operates five container terminals with a combined quay length exceeding 2,500 metres and accommodates ultra-large container vessels up to 15.0-metre draft. The port is a strategic fueling stop for liner services where the rotation schedule permits combined cargo and bunker operations. Bunker demand at JNPT has strengthened alongside container volume growth, with container liners accounting for the majority of VLSFO uptake. Mumbai Port Authority provides supporting bunker infrastructure across the bay.

Barge-to-ship is the standard delivery method, either at berth during cargo operations (where concurrent operations are permitted) or at the anchorage. For container liners on tight port rotations, pre-arranged alongside bunker while cargo is worked is often the most efficient option. LSMGO supply by road tanker is available for smaller stems and niche requirements.
