Port Overview

Mundra Port sits on the northern shore of the Gulf of Kutch, 80 km south-east of Kandla. Its multi-purpose terminals feature nine berths across 1.8 km of quay length, with alongside depths ranging from 9 to 16.5 metres — accommodating vessels up to 150,000 DWT directly at berth. Mundra is one of only three Indian ports capable of handling Capesize bulk carriers (the others being Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram). The port handles containers, coal, automobiles, crude oil and bulk cargo, serving as a critical gateway for northern and western India trade.

Parent Port Relationship

Mundra is associated with Kandla Port — major private port, 80 km south-east of kandla. Many vessel operators evaluate Mundra and Kandla together when planning Indian port calls. See the Kandla bunker guide for context on the broader supply area.

Supply & Product Sourcing

the leading Indian private bunker operator operates the in-port fuel infrastructure as India's leading private bunker supplier. The setup is unique in India: all three commercial marine fuel grades (VLSFO, HSFO, LSMGO) are available at Mundra with single-point ordering and direct pipeline supply to most jetties. HSFO supply was launched specifically to serve the growing scrubber-fitted fleet calling Mundra on Asia-Europe rotations. From Mundra, the leading Indian private bunker operator additionally supplies Kandla, Sikka, Vadinar and Jamnagar anchorages via its own and chartered barge fleet.

Supply landscape: Seven Ocean sources bunker fuel at this location from the full range of available physical suppliers — state-owned oil marketing companies, private-sector bunker operators, and private regional specialists — selecting for each nomination based on price, quality and availability.

Refinery & product source: A private-sector liquid terminal inside Mundra Port, with dedicated tanks with 460+ TKL capacity serving all fuel grades.

Delivery Methods

  • Pipeline (12-inch and 16-inch, up to 350 MT/hr)
  • Barge-to-ship (own/chartered fleet)
  • Dedicated barge berth for loading

Pipeline bunkering at berth is the default and fastest method at Mundra, with pumping rates up to 350 MT/hour — well above typical Indian port barge capacity. For vessels at anchorage or at jetties without direct pipeline connection, barge-to-ship supply is provided from the dedicated barge-loading berth inside Mundra Port. Truck-to-ship delivery is available for LSMGO and smaller HSD stems.

Vessel Types Regularly Bunkered

Capesize bulk carriers, ULCV container vessels, automobile carriers, tankers, VLCCs.

Regulatory & Tax Context

GST on bunker fuel at Mundra, as at all Indian ports, is 5 percent for both foreign-going and coastal vessels. Indian-flag vessels operating under the Merchant Shipping Act plying cargo between Indian ports can claim customs duty exemption on imported bunker fuels subject to documentary conditions — we handle this paperwork as part of the supply contract. Bunker Delivery Notes are issued MARPOL Annex VI compliant with every stem.
