Algeciras is Spain's largest bunker port and one of the busiest in the Mediterranean, supplying over 3.5 million tonnes of marine fuel annually. The port shares the Bay of Gibraltar with its namesake across the water and is a major container transshipment hub (the APM Terminals facility is one of the largest in the Mediterranean).

Bay of Algeciras designated anchorages; berth delivery at container terminals
Algeciras and Gibraltar are direct competitors for the same westbound-eastbound bunker traffic. Algeciras benefits from Spanish refinery proximity (CEPSA's La Rábida and Huelva plants) and a broader supplier base, while operating under EU regulatory regimes.
Unlike most major bunker hubs, Algeciras offers meaningful alongside bunkering at container terminals, reducing the need for separate anchorage time. This is an advantage for tight port calls.
All standard grades. LNG bunkering commenced in recent years and is expanding. Biofuel availability is growing in line with broader European trends.
Same levante weather exposure as Gibraltar. Nomination lead time typically 3-4 days.
